Boat Shows!

Posted on Sunday, November 20th, 2011 at 7:44 pm.

Just back from the St. Thomas and BVI Fall Boat Shows.  So many wonderful new yachts and crews!  One of the highlights was the lay day between the 2 events.  I was lucky to be invited aboard the 72-foot ketch, THREE MOONS  for a day of sailing, swimming, snorkeling and something everyone anticipates from Shelly’s galley…FOOD!   The shrimp and pasta platter was too pretty to disturb!  Randy paired delicious wine with the offering.  It is easy to see why Shelly wins every culinary contest she enters!

Going Green to Save The Blue!

Posted on Thursday, October 27th, 2011 at 10:54 pm.

Here is what a beach in the BVI looked like before my generous and caring clients volunteered to “give back to the BVI”.

Here is what the beach looked like after they bagged up hundreds of plastic bottles and other trash.

I serve on CYBA’s “GOING GREEN TO SAVE THE BLUE” Committee.    Yates Yachts has implemented a long list of environmentally sound practices in our office, including solar heating, paperless brochures, and recycling.

We can all pitch in!  There is no recycling in the islands. This year, CYBA is working on solutions to reduce the overwhelming amount of plastic bottle water waste. By educating the crews, and you, we hope to greatly diminish the impact on land and sea.

Many yachts make purified water onboard.  Others have opted to purchase multi-gallon water containers which is offered to guests in re-usable, stainless steel water bottles that you can take home with you.

Paddleboarding

Posted on Thursday, May 19th, 2011 at 8:41 pm.

Just returned from sailing for 10 days in the BVI. One of the highlights was my first time paddleboarding. Thank you Julie and Tim on McGregor II (www.galaia.com). Next was paddleboard skiing behind SUBLIME’s (www.viewyacht.com/sublime) go-fast dinghy. I managed to stay on my feet…until the turn. Amazing face plant! Thanks so much Brian and Stephanie. For a great core workout and a test of your balance, try paddleboarding!  But use better form than this, please!

The quarters are generally anything but cramped and usually offer more than adequate storage space for anything you might choose to bring along with you. The experienced crew will ensure that you are looked after from morning until night, taking care of all of the cooking and cleaning. Visit Yates Yachts new website at www.yatesyachts.com to plan your next trip.

Travel The Leeward Islands With Yates Yachts

Posted on Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at 4:43 am.

The Leeward Islands are the northern islands of the Lesser Antilles chain of islands, east of Puerto Rico and running southward to Dominica, being part of the West Indies. They are situated where the northeastern Caribbean Sea meets the western Atlantic Ocean. These islands are referred to as “leeward” because the prevailing winds in the area blow from the east. Thus these islands are downwind from, or leeward of, the southeastern most Windward Islands, the group of islands that first meet the trade winds. To make plans on traveling a chartered yacht through the Leeward Islands, contact Yates Yachts, 866-994-7245, or visit their website at www.yatesyachts.com.
