Windward Islands
Another favorite place to charter, the four main islands of Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Grenada are very lush, while The Grenadines offer a host of smaller, drier islands with perfect beaches, crystal clear water, and colorful reefs.
Staring at the top of this island chain is French Martinique, the largest of the Windward Islands. Charming St. Pierre lies at the foot of Mt. Pelee volcano. The story of the eruption that killed all 30,000 residents in 1902 (except for one very lucky prisoner in the local jail) is legendary. Our trips to the bustling City of Fort de France were always a gastronomic feast. Start your journey down the Rue Victor Hugo and don’t forget to stop for a fresh croissant or refreshing chilled glass of white wine. C’est magnifique!
St. Lucia has many surprises, including the spectacularly beautiful and elusive bay in Marigot. So well hidden, a British Admiral is said to have hidden his fleet here from the pursing French. The crews tied palm fronds in the rigging. From the sea, his looked like just another empty inlet! But the most spectacular sight is sailing south to the towering Pitons, 2 mountains rising up from the sea. Visit the nearby hot springs, or take a taxi into the hills to enjoy the views with a sunset punch in hand.
Certainly the most popular place to charter in the Windwards is THE GRENADINES! Board your crewed yacht charter in St. Vincent and sail south for Bequia, chic Mustique, Canouan, the gorgeous Tobago Cays, Union and Palm Islands, Petit St. Vincent and Petit Martinique. Caribbean yacht charters in the Windwards are magical. If you have the time, charter your yacht for 10 days, and end your journey in Grenada, the Spice Island.
